My name is David Finch and I am writing to you on behalf of Sevenoaks Climate Action Network, which has recently been created. It is essentially a community based "Zero Carbon" group which aims to help prevent further Climate Change. We are aware that Sevenoaks u3a is concerned about climate change and we would like to invite your members to join us from 4pm to 6pm on 13th November at The Drive Methodist Church in Sevenoaks (TN13 3AE) for the Sevenoaks Climate Action Network Launch.

I have attached a flyer for the event, and included more detailed information below. If any of your members are interested in attending they can register here.

More about the event

The climate emergency is getting more serious all the time. But we don't have to wait for politicians to sort it for us. If we get stuck in ourselves, we can do amazing things. It's time to get involved.

That's why a group of us from all across Sevenoaks District have come together to start Sevenoaks Climate Action Network - because Sevenoaks CAN! - and now we want to invite you to join us.

At our launch event, we'll hear from Jane Burston, a local resident and a global environmental leader who has spoken on Radio 4, at the UN General Assembly, and at the World Economic Forum. Jane will just have come back from COP26, and will set the scene for us.

Then some of the founding group of Sevenoaks CAN will share our plans so far - and get the conversation started. We're intending to do three things:

1) Build Community. So many people are doing great work all across our district already, from cycling campaigns to food growing. We aim to bring people together so we can be more than the sum of our parts.

2) Promote Zero carbon, Eco friendly living. There is a lot we can all do with small day-to-day changes, but it can be confusing. We're creating a forum where we can all share ideas and help each other lead greener lives.

3) Campaign for Change. Going green is not about any one political party, but we do need political change. We plan to help our local councils do the right thing - and challenge them if we have to.

This is just the beginning, though, and we'd love to add the Sevenoaks u3a's ideas and energy to the mix.

For the safety of everyone coming to the event, please do not attend if you or anyone in your household has COVID-19 symptoms or you have been asked to self isolate. Due to the nature of the event, we note that social distancing measures will not be possible.

For those that are unable to attend in person, we hope to livestream the event from our Facebook page

I do hope that some of your members will be able to attend.

Kind regards

David Finch
