We were very saddened by the death in mid 2022 of Roger FitzGerald. A valued member of the Society’s Executive Committee for many years, he will be sorely missed. Roger made an immense contribution to the conservation and enhancement of our town both through the Society as well as his own architectural and artistic endeavours. Roger’s obituary appears in the Society’s Winter magazine which recognises his considerable contribution to the Society’s activities. A retrospective of his work and art will be held in the Kaleidoscope Gallery in Sevenoaks library from 22nd February to 11th March 2023. In addition to his other work, Roger used his artistic talent for the benefit of the community locally. Over the years, he voluntarily created many wonderful drawings and paintings of Sevenoaks buildings which have adorned Society local history books, including ‘Sevenoaks: A Remarkable Town’. He also painted a number of images especially for the Society’s heritage exhibition in 2019 and again in 2022 for the Society’s ‘900 Years of Sevenoaks Town’ exhibition. These images contributed greatly to the success of these exhibitions. A slideshow of some of Roger’s Sevenoaks paintings is displayed below.
