Country Walks Around Sevenoaks: Volumes 1 to 9

The first Sevenoaks Society walking guides were produced by the late Rowland Oakeley in the 1970’s. He produced four volumes each containing eleven walks, each on a separate card. When I assumed responsibility for the footpaths section in 2012 I decided to produce a fifth volume. That was printed in a completely new format with a glossy cover containing a pocket to house cards for the individual walks. The next step was to revise the first four volumes and to have them printed in the new format. Although I initially thought that 55 walks covered all of the best areas of countryside around Sevenoaks, friends made me aware of yet more walks and volumes 6 and 7 followed in 2018 and 2019, 8 and 9 followed in 2020 and 2022, so there are now 100 walks. While our lovely countryside remains largely the same, there have been changes to many of the landmarks along the way, and we have initiated a programme to revise all of the guides starting with Volumes 1, 3 and 5. Each now shows a list of 22 combinations along with recommended pubs on the inside covers for the benefit of those who like to do more than one walk in a day.  Although I have done most of the legwork and drafted the directions, the artwork and design has been undertaken by Victoria Granville Baxter.

Copies are available from Sevenoaks Bookshop, Up & Running, Lullingstone Visitor Centre, Ide Hill Community Shop or directly from the Sevenoaks Society. The suggested selling price is £4.00 per volume.
