History:

Building in 1850 had plain brick face and three storeys high with parapet. Early occupants unknown.

Hairdresser – Wadden – 1901 to 1907

Grocer – Frost’s grocery – 1907 to 1908

Grocery and provisions – World’s Stores – 1908 to 1950

Fishmonger – Packman – 1950 to 1968

Re-built in late 1970’s

Description:

Two storey, two bay width, modern ‘Classical’ style infill with mansard roof of plain dark brown tiles and lead flashings and coping.

Ground floor four bay vertical treated timber shop front with single glazed door on right hand side (south) and panelled timber stall riser under glazed display windows with shallow plain fascia and lead flashing above.

First floor plain brick with two symmetrically placed square paned sash windows in slightly recessed vertical brick panels and flat brick on edge lintels.

Second floor/roof mansard with two symmetrically placed lead flashed dormers over first floor windows with square paned sash windows.

Roof finishes with lead flashed moulded eaves cornice full width of building.

Comment:

Neat, modest, undistinguished building to a smaller scale to its immediate neighbours.
