History:

Built about 1865 as residential 1870, converted ground floor to shop with railings to road. No. 11 J Vickers – greengrocer. Subsequently, Green Elegance – florist (see photograph A15). No. 13 was Sheffords – estate agents (see photograph A17).

At the foot of the page is a photograph from the 1981 survey.

Description:

Two storey building with roof conversion and four flat lead covered roof dormers with white metal windows. Five first floor sash windows set in rendered wall, with moulded architraves and corbels to windows. Sixth window over No. 13 has been converted into a modern metal framed bay window with single main light and two side lights and leaded fanlights. Ashlar quoins remain to right of entrances to Nos. 11B and 13 on ground floor.

Roof is covered with clay tiles and projecting eaves supported by white painted dentils.

Shop fronts:

No. 11 deep glazed fascia with blind over single light timber framed glazing set behind white tiled plinth, two steps high, with single door to right hand side.

No. 11A fascia in timber frame over centre double doors in timber with single panel glazing to each side and over doors.

No. 11B single door in white painted glazed (leaded lights) timber frame to upper floors.

No. 13 modern three bay white painted arched timber glazed shop front with door recessed on right hand side.

Nos. 11, 11A and 11B raised above pavement to suit fall in road levels.

Comment:

Generally in good condition except for roof and dormers over Nos. 11A and B.
