History:

Site always associated with drink. Original building was ‘quaint old house and shop’. Built 1860 part of Eland’s Lane.

Retail outlet with stores above – Page – wine merchants.

Description:

Strong corner building at junction of London Road and South Part on two floors, splayed on corner. First floor in yellow stock bricks with rendered sub-cill in horizontal bands, two white painted timber sash windows, two per façade with South Park elevation at wider spacing than the London Road. On ground floor fully glazed single door on splayed corner in timber frame with three steps up from pavement – solid fanlight. Timber framed display shop fronts over brick stall riser with shallow timber lead flashed canopy over windows and door.

Roof hipped in slates with projecting eaves.

Comment:

Undistinguished building but strong in turning corner.
