History:

Built by 1886, butchers shop on ground floor with steps up later extended forward in 1955.

Description:

On four floors with third floor being poor roof extension and ground floor extended forward. Ground floor centre single shop entrance in single pane glazed display windows with single timber door on RHS to upper floors and all under fluted glass fanlight. Splayed vertical boarded fascia with lead flashing and large gilt lettering and ‘47’ with brick piers on each side as return party walls and brick over shop front capped by concrete coping. First floor four arched long sash windows set in brickwork with brick on end arched lintels and projecting brick string course over. Second floor four long sash windows matching those on floor below but two in centre flat headed and all set in rendered façade with ornamental brick panels under each window. Third floor modern metal windows in timber frames and side panels on brick under windows and set between brick flank walls raised to roof height.

Comment:

Crude and unfortunate late 19th century building out-of-scale with surroundings with poor roof extension.
