TOWN SURVEY UPDATE 2010 UPPER HIGH STREET WEST Building: The Parish Church of St Nicholas Listing: Grade II*, LBS number 172208

History: St Nicholas Church has existed in historical records since the reign of King Henry I. The present nave dates from about 1270, replacing an earlier church. The north aisle was added in about 1320 and the chancel, south aisle and tower about 1450. The church has been subject to many later alterations but the basic fifteenth century structure and style remains.
