Sevenoaks has the good fortune of being surrounded by a fabulous network of public footpaths. The Society encourages the use of those paths and in particular

The section’s co-ordinator is Patrick Pascall who can be contacted on 01732 452602 or E-mail

layer2The Society has installed a bench to commemorate the late Rowland Oakeley, the founder of our Footpaths Section, leader of 234 walks between 1971 and 1982, and author of the first four volumes of our walks booklets.

The bench is located in the “Chevening Keyhole” on the North Downs Way, looking down on Chevening House. A special walk was held in July 2014 to dedicate the bench. Some 30 walkers celebrated with champagne, and the tape was cut by Rowland’s son Dr Henry Oakeley.
